What is lacrosse?
For those parents who are unfamiliar with lacrosse, click here for a short video produced by US Lacrosse that provides an overview of the game.
Who can attend the clinic?
Any boy or girl from 8-16 years old who is interested in learning the game of lacrosse.
What are the dates and times of the clinics? Where will the clinics be held?
The clinic on May 18th, 2013 will be held at Bethel Park in Templeton at the corner of Las Tablas and Bethel Road.
The clinic on May 25th, 2013 will be held at Taylor Field in San Luis Obispo. Taylor Field is located at the old SLO junior high (currently the San Luis Adult School) at 1500 Lizzie Street. The field is located up above the parking lots.
Both clinics will run from 9:30 a.m. to noon. Check-in will start promptly at 9:30 a.m. and the clinic will begin shortly thereafter.
Do I have to register for both clinics in order to participate?
No.
Is there a cost to attend the clinic?
Our primary goal is to grow the game of lacrosse and bring the fastest growing sport in the nation to the Central Coast. However, in order to cover the costs of renting the fields, carrying insurance, etc. there will be a nominal fee for the clinics. The cost of a single session is $10. You can pay online while registering or bring payment with you on the morning of the clinic. Regardless of how you decide to pay, we would like everyone to at least register online, so we can plan the clinic accordingly.
If your child would like to participate in the clinic, but you cannot afford the registration fee please contact Coach Lea and he can work with you to reduce or eliminate the clinic cost.
Do I need any equipment?
Each player will need to bring cleats and a water bottle. That’s all that is required.
If your child already has a lacrosse stick, they should obviously bring that as well. However, we will have lacrosse sticks that players can borrow for the clinic at no charge.
***You do NOT need to purchase a stick prior to attending the clinic.
Sticks will be available to borrow at the clinics.***
Will these clinics be full contact?
No. Lacrosse can be a challenging game to learn, and before anyone can safely participate in a full-field game they need to be proficient in the fundamentals – catching, throwing, cradling, and scooping. These clinics are designed to teach those fundamentals.
In addition, in order to play a regulation lacrosse game (for the boys at least), each player needs a helmet, gloves and other protective padding. That equipment is not needed for a beginner’s player clinic such as this.
Who will be coaching the clinics?
The clinics will be led by the coaching staff of the Cal Poly Men’s and Women’s Lacrosse teams, as well as many of the Mustang players.
How do I register my son or daughter?
Online registration is now available for the clinics, and is the easiest way to sign up.
If you would prefer to sign up on the day of the clinic, that is fine, but please email or phone (805) 704.5565 Coach Lea prior to the clinic dates and provide him with the following information:
Parent/guardian name, address, phone number, and email.
Childs name, gender, age, grade, and school.
Date(s) of the clinic(s) that you would like to attend.
