Central Coast Lacrosse - Men's League Rules

Central Coast Lacrosse was developed to give lacrosse players in our area the chance to get out on the field and play the fastest game on two feet. The league is designed for anyone that has played competitive lacrosse at some level, whether they are a current college player or a former high school player that hasn’t played organized lacrosse in years but is itching to get back on the field.
We are excited to get out on the field and compete, but we also need to remind players that this is a recreational league not a collegiate playoff game. Scores will be kept and standings will be kept, but at the end of the day we are all focused on having a good time and keeping sportsmanship at a premium.
Each player is expected to follow certain general rules of conduct, as described below:
1.       Sportsmanship is paramount in Central Coast Lacrosse. All players participate at the approval of Central Coast Lacrosse organizers and officials, and anyone displaying poor sportsmanship can be asked to leave the game and/or premises and could jeopardize future participation in Central Coast Lacrosse.
2.       Referee calls are final; arguing with the refs will not be tolerated. Any player berating a referee during or after a game will be asked to leave the game and the premises.
3.       Central Coast Lacrosse has the authority to prohibit any misbehaving player from participating in the league.
4.       Only registered players are allowed to play. Registered players are those whose names appear on the schedule and roster.
5.       If a team is short-handed players, players from the opposing team may play for the short-handed team. If there are no volunteers or both teams are short-handed, then the short-handed team may use Ringers. A Ringer is any Central Coast Lacrosse registered player.
6.       Central Coast Lacrosse is a registered user of the City of San Luis Obispo playing fields, BUT ONLY DURING OUR DESIGNATED PLAYING TIMES. Players may not utilize the Damon-Garcia Sports Fields at any other time other than registered games.
7.       The City of San Luis Obispo has final authority over the playing fields. In an effort to insure that Central Coast Lacrosse continues to be allowed to utilize the fields, players should be conscious not to cause any undue wear and tear on the playing fields.
8.       Although players are registering and paying to participate in Central Coast Lacrosse, their effort is required to make Central Coast Lacrosse operate smoothly. Each team is responsible for helping gather balls on their sidelines and endlines after each contest.
We will be playing under slightly modified NCAA rules, described as follows:
  1. Headhunting is not allowed. Any player deemed “looking for hits” will be asked to leave the game, and will likely be prohibited from playing in future contests.
  2. Body checks are generally discouraged. Lacrosse is a contact sport with stick checks and physical play, and these will be allowed within the confines of current NCAA rules, but since this is a recreational league players are encouraged to use their skills and avoid body checks whenever possible.
  3. All protective equipment required by NCAA rules must be used while playing in the Central Coast Lacrosse league.
  4. Stick checks will not generally me made. However, the referees reserve the right to conduct stick checks and call penalties against players using sticks that fall outside of NCAA guidelines , whether the stick is illegal for having a pocket that is too deep, a head that is too narrow (“pinched”), or any other violation.
